I know, I know……traditional Fourth of July decorations are all about Red, White and Blue and flags everywhere!
Trust me, I’m as American as they come!
My hubby served for 26 years in the military…..I definitely have American pride!!
In fact, I like to show it on my front porch beginning right around Memorial Day!
Hubby and I ate a wonderful 4th of July dessert in mason jars on that very porch and I’m sure we will again come the big day!!!
BUT, I’m getting honest here………
Although I love looking at traditional decorations in other homes, I don’t really decorate the inside of my home with red, white and blue!
(GASP!!!)
I take more of a non-traditional approach!! Here’s my mantel…..
My non-traditional flag is made out of some crate boards we had left over from our last military move. Hubby attached them and I gave them a white wash…..
Using Annie Sloan Old Ochre paint, I painted some paper mache stars and wooden USA letters I found at Hobby Lobby!
Once the paint was dry, I rubbed some Annie Sloan dark wax over the boards and attached my adornments with my glue gun!
EASY PEASY!!! (My Motto!!)
The actual flag is hung by a picture hanger I attached to the back of the top board. I felt it needed something more, though, so I stapled some burlap to the back and hot glued a star at the middle point. I then hot glued the star to a small nail in the wall.
I added a few rustic stars…….
….along with some framed sheet music of “Stars and Stripes Forever“!
Another EASY PEASY project…..
I printed some sheet music off of a free internet site, rubbed a light coating of Annie Sloan dark wax onto the sheet music, and stuck it in an old frame!
And, there you have my non-traditional Fourth of July mantel!
Tomorrow I’ll share with you how I made some more “wooden firecrackers” in a non-traditional way!!

Until next time……..
Hey Angela! I don’t know if it’s my computer or not, but I can’t see your images, except for the last one of the firecrackers.
Angela, I can’t see your pictures on this post. I wonder if it has to do with Google reader. Let me know!
Beautiful mantel! You really have a talent for repurposing. And what a great idea with the sheet music. I’m learning lots from you Angie, thanks!

I love the non traditional décor. I love doing my outdoors in the traditional red, white & blue but I am like you…non traditional indoors

Yay! It works! Beautiful, beautiful mantle!!! Love the sign you made! You are so very talented, Angela! Love the colors!
I absolutely love it- it looks patriotic to me!!! What a fun project and pretty easy, too- xo Diana
I’m sitting in front of the mantle right now and it looks fabulous! Momma, you’re so talented.
Great inspiration for those of us who don’t decorate with red!
Love it all Angela! Glad you got it fixed!
Looks lovely! I like the non-traditional look for indoors too.
Love it!!! The bright and happy red, white, and blue doesn’t always translate into an indoor space, I love the way you brought the spirit of the season inside in a more subtle way!
xoxo
Ooh it’s so pretty! I’m a huge fan of neutrals, so this is right up my alley! Great job, Angela!

I love it! What a way to add seasonal decorating while keeping it sophisticated. I struggle with my house looking like an elementary school classroom sometimes. You’ve given me some great ideas.
