Help Me Decide, Please!!

Help Me Decide, Please!!

I have two potential projects……..

…..I can’t decide what to do!

Project #1:

To paint or not to paint?

IMG_7468

I picked up this replica of a Scales of Justice at my local market.  It was in the “sale” shopping cart, just kinda tossed in, priced at $20. Obviously, in my cart it went!  When I got home and removed the new sticker price to reveal the original, my jaw dropped…..$99!  Score!!!

Anyway……I digress…..

I think it will be fun to decorate and change-up throughout the year but here’s my problem……

I think it’s too dark!  It’s hard to see on my black kitchen island.  Could you even tell it has a fabulous little bird perched on the top?  NO!

I’m thinking painting a cream and then distressing?

What would you do???

Any and ALL suggestions are accepted, please!!!

Side Note:  I’m also considering painting the kitchen island cream and distressing.  What’s your thoughts about that??!!

:)

Now, Project #2:

I bought the lamp on sale at Home Goods a couple of weeks ago and set it on my new kitchen computer work space area and it’s perfect for there.

Except the lampshade……………

IMG_7419

I’m thinking it’s too white!!

I’ve thought about painting it, stenciling it, fabric covering it or just getting a new shade altogether (or am I nuts, and should just leave it white?).

What would you do???

Any and all suggestions accepted here, too, please!!!

Thanks and I’ll let you know what you all decided!!!

Until next time……..

Thrift Store Finds

I love getting gift cards as gifts……..

…….especially from Good Will!!!

:)

I had no idea Good Will even gave gift cards!!

My daughter gave me one for my birthday back in October and I just now got around to spending it!

We took a day to go shopping at all the Goodwill’s around town!!! We actually have 4 that I know of but have a hunch there are more!!!

:)

Today was “metal” day for me…….

IMG_6871

My first find was this brass “pot”……I think it’s a decorative planter but has no holes in the bottom.

I love the detail of the gargoyle heads on the sides!!!

IMG_6873

Of course, when I put it in my cart I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do with it but I knew one day, I would!

IMG_7424

When I repurposed our kitchen eating area, I felt I needed to add a plant and the brass pot worked perfectly!

IMG_7442 IMG_7441

I just set the plant in the pot for now and covered the top with spanish moss!

IMG_7444

Next, I found this wonderful copper rectangular pot!  I can’t believe someone just gave this away!

IMG_6874

I have yet to find the perfect place for it but, for now, it sits by my kitchen island with a garland of yellow pip berries and an old wooden spoon nestled inside!

IMG_7439 IMG_7434

I tried to polish the copper a little but it wouldn’t shine up so I decided it was beautiful just the way it was!IMG_7435

My last metal treasure is this beautiful silver piece.  I think it looks like a shamrock!

IMG_6876

It’s perfect for parties to set out nuts, candies or use as a condiment holder!

IMG_7461 IMG_7464

I know when my hubby gets home and sits down at his computer, these will be gone!! (I need do to something “crafty” with that purple computer mouse pad…..soon!).

IMG_7473 IMG_7475

There ya go!  Not a bad day thrifting at Goodwill on someone else’s dime!  Thank you my sweet daughter for the awesome gift card!

Until next time……..

Kitchen Eating Area – thinking outside the box

Kitchen Eating Area – thinking outside the box

When our children were still living at home our kitchen eating area worked very nicely for us!

 IMG_1506

Many a good family meal has been served in this space with lively discussions regarding school, relationships, politics and everything else under the sun!

:)

But with their departure to college and eventually out on their own, this space was hardly used and has lately ended up looking like this….

IMG_7214IMG_7215

My hubby’s computer has made its way down to the kitchen table!  These days we both enjoy time on our computers but still wish to spend time together and since the kitchen, television and our bedroom are on this floor, this is where we tend to gravitate to in the evenings.

Well, I finally had enough of a computer on my kitchen table so it was time to “think outside the box”!

IMG_7420

We brought my desk down from the office/guest room and took the kitchen table upstairs to the game room to use for playing cards!!

After I put it all together, my hubby looked at me and said “it’s not really an eating area anymore” to which I responded, “exactly”!  It doesn’t need to be with just the two of us!  There is still room to eat should we decide to at the table and when the kids come for dinner, we eat in the dining room!

IMG_7424

The next day he said to me, “it’s growing on me….I like it”!

:)

I picked up a palm tree to add a little “life” to the space……let’s hope I don’t kill it!! :)

IMG_7424

Some tulips “springify” the space…..

IMG_7428

A new lamp I picked up at Home Goods found its home. I love the bubbles in the glass!

IMG_7429

Sometimes it’s okay to think outside the box.  It may not be right for everyone but for us, it works!! I feel like I have a whole new room!!

IMG_7427 IMG_7424 IMG_7420

What about you?  Do you use a room in your home in a totally different way than is normally intended?

IMG_7431

Until next time…….
