When our children were still living at home our kitchen eating area worked very nicely for us!
Many a good family meal has been served in this space with lively discussions regarding school, relationships, politics and everything else under the sun!
But with their departure to college and eventually out on their own, this space was hardly used and has lately ended up looking like this….
My hubby’s computer has made its way down to the kitchen table! These days we both enjoy time on our computers but still wish to spend time together and since the kitchen, television and our bedroom are on this floor, this is where we tend to gravitate to in the evenings.
Well, I finally had enough of a computer on my kitchen table so it was time to “think outside the box”!
We brought my desk down from the office/guest room and took the kitchen table upstairs to the game room to use for playing cards!!
After I put it all together, my hubby looked at me and said “it’s not really an eating area anymore” to which I responded, “exactly”! It doesn’t need to be with just the two of us! There is still room to eat should we decide to at the table and when the kids come for dinner, we eat in the dining room!
The next day he said to me, “it’s growing on me….I like it”!
I picked up a palm tree to add a little “life” to the space……let’s hope I don’t kill it!!
Some tulips “springify” the space…..
A new lamp I picked up at Home Goods found its home. I love the bubbles in the glass!
Sometimes it’s okay to think outside the box. It may not be right for everyone but for us, it works!! I feel like I have a whole new room!!
What about you? Do you use a room in your home in a totally different way than is normally intended?
Until next time…….

It looks lovely, and I like that you have wine on the wall of your new office!! LOL!
Your kitchen looks awesome Angela. So many little things I had not noticed. Those chairs are great too!
Love it! So, can you write off the entire kitchen area as your office on your taxes next year? Along with the energy savings applianes you got this year?
I really like it! The table and chairs give it a fresh, updated look and it’s now more functional. Perfect!
I love the change!…a great and pretty solution…love the new space and you hit it out of the park thinking outside the box!
Not only do I love the new look and purpose, but I love that you moved the kitchen table for playing cards!
Your desk looks very much like a small dining table and i like the look of the chairs very much! They look more comfy than the other chairs which is always a good thing.
Life changes and there are almost always tweaks that need to be done to our homes for them to work for us.
Good for you for making this space make sense for you two lovebirds
I think that looks great Angela. Your desk looks more like a pretty all purpose table to me- definitely not too officey. (Love that made up word) the chairs are wonderful and I bet they are comfortable. Smart move!
Angela,
Love the new table in the space! Those chairs are amazing!
Happy day!

Love the new look and the use for your desk. I would love to refinish a table I have with these colors. Please share the finish paint colors for your desk/kitchen table. Thanks.
I love it! What a great idea! It’s such a charming space!
I think that’s a great use of the space! It looks like you have bar stools so you have another area to eat. I converted a small bedroom into my office. We’re in the same position with no one home except us.
What a fabulous update and makeover! I love the desk as a table! It’s a fabulous piece and the chairs are perfect! I love that you thought out of the box for this makeover!
I sure need to do a lot of that kind of thinking myself. Looks great.
