Getting the porch ready for summer

Getting the porch ready for summer

It’s time for a change on the front porch.

As you know, I like to change it up with every season or special holiday.

Last summer, I had it looking like this………..

If you’d like to see more, you can see the whole thing HERE!

:)

This year I’ve decided to go a different route………

……..blues, reds and tans!!!

This is normally not my typical color scheme but I decided it was time to expand my horizons and step out of my comfort zone…..try something new!

It all started with this set of pillows I found at the thrift store for $5 for the set!

I love the embroidery work on the flowers!!!!

Next, I started scouring Ebay (one of my favorite pastimes!) for pillow covers to coordinate!

I found this set from Pottery Barn for $20/set and loved the contrast of the stripes with the floral and checks on the other pillows.

I also picked up this fabric at Hobby Lobby on sale for $4 a yard.  Since it is upholstery fabric and very wide, I only needed one yard!

I love the herringbone pattern!!!!

I’ll use this to cover the top of my basket and to make pillow covers for the small pillows on the rocking chairs.

A new bamboo rug is also in the works.

Remember my “bee” stenciled rug from last year?

I haven’t decided what to do this year……any suggestions??

Finally, I’m thinking I’m going to paint my urns in a creamy white chalk paint.  As much as I have loved them painted black, I think it’s time for a change.  I’m hoping the white will really make my faux greenery orbs “pop”!

So, now the fun begins!!!

I’ll reveal when it’s all put together!  How about you?  Are you getting your home all ready for summer??

Until next time………

  1. Love it already! You were so smart to pick up those pillows at the thrift store. They look brand new and are so pretty!

  2. I’m a sucker for anything red/white(tan in your case, lol)/blue! I’m glad I wasn’t at the thrift store at the same time, I might have had to fight you for those pillows :-) I have no time for tweaking any decorating at my place (I’m in the midst of a diy kitchen remodel, and getting ready to paint the outside of the house), so I look forward to living vicariously through bloggers this summer – I’m looking forward to seeing you put it together :-)

The change in season is so exciting! I can’t wait to see what all you come up with. I know it’s going to be beautiful. I would like to jazz up my front entry, but I haven’t decided what to do with it. No matter what I decide……..it will have to be on a budget. I appreciate all of the tips you share here.

I love the colors and patterns!….Never thought to look for pillow covers on eBay!…I am such a fan of houndstooth!…Can’t wait to see the beautiful things you do!

  5. I must say your last year scheme is classic and you can always save the pillows in black bags in the garage!! But I’m like you. I wanted to do things a bit different last year and this. I moved away from rusts and mixed blues into my oranges and olivey greens. I like looking out my patio and seeing a new look. I even lightly sprayed my black hmmm mesh(?) table and chairs the olivey lime green. I like the black showing through a bit. The bright blue and greens in the outdoor rugs go well.
As for outdoor rugs, I got mine off of Wayfair daily deals very very reasonable. But your porch is covered. I rather like the contrast of the rug you have. Paint the bee with your ASCP?? I don’t know your budget!! But what you’re doing looks fun and cheerful. So keeping your rug seems a nice neutral balance to all the pattern. But you will know when you see what you like!!! Have fun! I’m glad to be getting your post again.

Angela!! ME WANTY THOSE PILLOWS! What a find! You done good ;).

I like the idea of painting your planters white. It definitely will bring out their details and make the orbs stand out more.

  7. Ohh can’t wait to see the changes Angela. Love those pillows. Have a wonderful weekend. XO
