Flower Power!

Flower Power!

This is a little ole post about a recent obsession of mine.

Lampshades and the ornamentation of them.

You see them everywhere….magazines, blogs, websites….I even have a couple in my own home!

Burlap is EVERYWHERE!…………

I was recently at Hobby Lobby and found these “magnetic” flowers!

IMG_2666

This was HUGE for me, people!  I’ve done the normal “glue” on of flowers, bows, even brooches.  In fact, I’ve been known to pin a brooch or two onto a lampshade, but when I was ready for a change, I would have a nice little hole where the pin punctured the shade! With the prices of a good shade these days, I love the fact I’m not creating a permanent fixture and can change it out when I get a whim (which seems to be quite often)!

So, NO MORE!!

I’m a magnetizing FOOL these days!!

I added the ones I bought to my bedroom lamps.  They add just that little extra something, ya know?

I also found these “already magnetic” flowers at Target as part of the Smith and Hawken line.

They come in a package of three for about $15 and I’ve been trying them in different places.  I’ve adorned a couple of lamps, my refrigerator, old-fashioned food scale, even my fireplace front!   Any surface that is magnetic is fair game!  I tend to move them around!  They make me smile!

I decided I needed more but make them myself!

Now, I know there are those of you out there that are crafty enough to make burlap or felt flowers, bows, anything really.  Let your imaginations run wild!  If you do, let me know!  I may want to buy some!

As for me, I decided to go the easier route…..that’s just the way I am….quick, easy fixes!  What can I say?

I went back to Hobby Lobby, bought some magnets, and found this funky, cool flower embellished with “diamonds”!

I took off the stem and glued a magnet on the back of the flower.  (I know you would probably like a tutorial but, really, I think you can figure this out)!

I then took another magnet and attached the flower to my lamp on my porch for a little extra bling!

Cool, huh?

Imagine the possibilities!  Think holidays and seasonal changes!  You could change your lamp shades like you change pillows! The possibilities are endless!

So let your imaginations run wild.  For about $7 for a package of 50 magnets and your own ornamentation…(I know you must have some things lying around the house in your craft box that would work!) you could create 25 different ornaments!

Can you see now why I’m soooooooo pumped about this!!!

Hope this sweet little ole post puts a smile on your face and you stop and think about what you could magnetize!

Until next time…………

  1. Linda @ it all started with paint :

This is truly a brilliant idea! Seriously! I spotted some pretty shades with flowers at Pier 1 and was toying with doing that but, like you, worried about the glue and holes … now I can make my very own magnetized versions!

Thanks so much for this fabulous inspiration!

    :) Linda

  2. I would have never thought to use magnets, but that idea is simple genius! Anything that can be switched around and isn’t permanent is a winner in my book. And I love the flowers that you’ve used for your lamps! It really makes them so lovely.
