Backyard Retreat #2 – A Shed

Backyard Retreat #2 – A Shed

Welcome to the second in our series of our backyard transformation!

Last week I showed you how we added wooden awnings to the back of our house…..

You can see the entire post HERE!

This week I’m highlighting what really started the entire domino effect of our backyard!

MY HUSBAND’S SHED SHOP!!

We’re not talking a ‘teenie’ shop……….OH NO!

He wanted one that was 12×16 feet!!

We thought about building it in the back corner of our lot but he wanted it wired for electricity and that proved to be too expensive!

My sister-in-law suggested we just add it on the back of the house!

Oh sure, I thought!  We’ll ‘just add it to the back of the house’!  But everyone agreed it could be done so I was silenced and the shop excursion began!!

After clearing all construction thru our neighborhood association, receiving the proper permits, and making what seemed like 1000 trips to Home Depot….IT BEGAN!

**Let me state:  this post is heavy on pictures and light on words! I think the pictures will tell the story.  Should you want further information on anything you’ve seen here, please let me know and we will do our best to give you full tutorials and information.**

The beginning…..

After the concrete was poured and cured……the framing went up.

Next came the roof…..

Of course, it needed a window!

The walls went up…..

Then we headed inside the garage to cut out a door to enable us to enter the shed shop thru the garage!

Hubby designed some storage cabinets and installed used slatwall panels we found at a salvage store display yard. This allowed him to hang and organize his tools and utilize the space well!

Final trimming, lighting inside/outside was wired and finishing touches were completed……..

There you have it in a ‘nutshell’! :)

A big “kudos” to my hubby and brother!  It turned out great!  My hubby is extremely happy in his shed shop!  Whenever I can’t find him, he’s in there ‘puttering’!

As I write this blog post, we’re working on adding a small pond behind our shop…..more on that to come!

Please join me next week, when I’ll be showing you how we (my brother) added “arbors” to our retreat!  Not just one arbor….OH NO…..I wanted four!!! :)

Until next time…………..

  1. Oh Angela! You are so lucky to have this! I have a story to tell about storage but it’s a long one so I will pass, but I so wish I had this. It’s fabulous?

  2. These pictures made it look easy and I know it wasn’t! What a great shop for the Hubby-I can’t wait to see your pond!

  4. Oh wow! I’m NEVER showing this to Andy because he’ll start to get some crazy idea that it’s acceptable to make these lofty demands! (Your own building for tools? Electricity?!) :) It turned out GREAT! Kudos!

  5. Angela, you guys did a fabulous job! I love the fact that you can enter it through the garage. My husband has been wanting one for so long now and it is on out list of “wants” as we start building the backyard. I will show him this post. He is going to be so jealous! LOL

  6. I totally pinned this because I don’t have a garage and I want a work space!!! Turned out great!!
